Emergency Water for Disabled Veterans – We’re on a Mission!
Constant Water whole-house systems now qualify for
VA Adapted Home Grant programs
Emergency water for disabled veterans should be a given. It is more important than ever. We know how important water is to you and your family. And, we know how many events can cause water loss for our disabled veterans. Storms, floods, fires, and earthquakes make the news regularly. While you home may not be flooded, burned, or damaged; power outages and water failures occur will beyond the immediate impact area.
We assume water from public systems will always be there; until it isn’t. Having an emergency water supply is critical.
Our disabled veterans face unique challenges. They simply want to live as independently and comfortable as possible. At CONSTANT WATER, we know how important water is to everyone, but particularly to veterans.
Department of VA Grants Now Available for Constant Water
VA adaptive housing grants (SAH, SHA, and TRA) now cover Constant Water purchase and installation costs for eligible veterans. Qualifying veterans are eligible for up $100,896 of funding for home modifications including emergency water systems.
Home Improvement and Structural Alteration (HISA)
Grant
Many more veterans qualify for Home Improvement and Structural Alteration (HISA) grants than will for the SAH/SHA grant programs. Any veteran with a disability rating can qualify for grants up to $6,800.
The HISA grant program provides eligible beneficiaries with limited lifetime funds to use towards home improvements and structural alterations that originate from a medical prescription. The HISA program is complementary to Veterans Benefits Administration (VBA) housing adaptation grants such as Specially Adapted Housing (SAH), Special Housing Adaptation (SHA), and Temporary Residence Adaptation (TRA).
The HISA benefit is for medically necessary improvements or structural alterations to the beneficiary’s primary residence that:
(1) Are necessary for the continuation of the provision of home health treatment of the beneficiary’s disability; and/or
(2) Provide the beneficiary with access to the home or to an essential lavatory and sanitary facility.
The governing document for this program specifically list “Updates to plumbing systems to support medical equipment and other essential lavatories or sanitary facilities” as an example of modifications that meet the scope of HISA grants.
HISA grants are managed at the individual VA hospital, and beneficiaries need to be registered with a VA medical facility to use the grant program. Once registered, we can help with the application and supporting documents you’ll need to apply for this grant.
If you are already registered with a VA medical facility, the process can move pretty quickly, but will vary from facility to facility.
